We have released our 2018 roadmap a while ago. Our development team has worked very hard over the past few months and we are making a lot of progress. We have updated the roadmap to show features have been released and what we are currently working on. We understand that not everyone might understand all of the technical terms so we will explain them in this article. Feel free to contact us on Telegram or Discord if you have further questions, we are glad to answer them for you!

Trezor support: Our code has been reviewed and approved by Trezor. Viacoin support will be included in their next firmware update!

New website: The new Viacoin website is live. Visit https://viacoin.org and let us know what you think.

ATM support: Viacoin has been added to GeneralBytes’ Github repository and has been pushed to the GeneralBytes server. Viacoin can now be added to over 1,475 ATMs in 41 countries!

Vialectrum 3.0.5: We have recently released the latest version of the Vialectrum wallet. More information about the release can be found here.

Team expansion: We have added a few developers to the Viacoin development team over the past few months. We’ll continue to expand our team. We hope to have more good news soon!

Lightning Network Daemon: LND is a complete implementation of a Viacoin Lightning Network node. More information can be found in our Github repository.

Zap Viacoin wallet: Zap for Viacoin is a Lightning Network wallet based on Jack Mallers’ Zap wallet. More information can be found on their website.

Viacoin Bech32 for Native SegWit addresses: Bech32 addresses are natively SegWit compatible, meaning the tx doesn’t need extra space to put SegWit in the P2SH address. It also has more advantages like smaller QR codes, stronger protection against typing errors, enables auto completion and only consisting of lower cases. Vialectrum 3.0.5. and Coinomi already support Bech32 addresses. Ledger is adding Bech32 support very soon!

ViacoinJ: Viacoin Core alternative implementation in Java. ViacoinJ is a library for working with the Viacoin protocol. It can maintain a wallet, send/receive transactions without needing a local copy of Viacoin Core and has many other advanced features. It’s implemented in Java but can be used from any JVM compatible language

New exchanges listings: Viacoin recently got listed on Binance. You can now trade Viacoin for BTC, ETH and BNB. We are currently talking to several other (Asian) exchanges.

Viacoin Samourai Mobile wallet: A mobile wallet for Viacoin based on Samourai, which focusses on anonymity and secure funds. More information can be found on their website.

Vialectrum Android wallet: An Android version of the Vialectrum wallet. We will also release an iOS version once Electrum releases their iOS wallet.

Colored Coins Protocol: Counterparty equivalent on the Viacoin blockchain, allowing the storage of more metadata. More information on the protocol can be found here.

RSK Smart Contracts: RSK will allow Viacoin to actively participate in the Smart Contract revolution. Our goal is to add value and functionality to the Viacoin ecosystem by enabling smart-contracts, near instant payments and higher-scalability.

Styx: Unlinkable anonymous atomic payments for Viacoin. Read all about Styx in our whitepaper.

Viacoin Core 0.15: We have recently released Viacoin Core 0.15.1. We will soon release an article to explain all of its features:

  • Chainstate Database restructure.
  • Assume valid blocks.
  • P2P network refactoring.
  • UTXO cache claiming unused mempool.
  • Block Relay Improvements.
  • No keypool refill flush.
  • Upgrade LevelDB.

We planned on including Schnorr signatures and M.A.S.T. but unfortunately both features aren’t stable enough to include them in Viacoin Core 0.15.1. Our development team is working hard on improving and testing both features. Schnorr signatures and M.A.S.T. will be included in the next big Viacoin Core update.
