Introducing our first step towards bringing real-world assets to blockchain

Since Perlin’s inception in late 2017, the team has been focused on connecting existing traditional markets and economies to the blockchain ecosystem. As the exclusive blockchain partner of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Perlin has co-founded the Centre of Future Trade, ICC Clarify, ICC TradeFlow, and ICC Carbon Council alongside the ICC.

2020 has been a year of unprecedented challenges and incredible new opportunities. While continuing our work in global commodities and trade finance markets, we’ve also closely tracked the devastating impact of COVID-19 on traditional economies alongside the meteoric rise of DeFi. In response to these once-in-a-generation global shifts, we have redesigned the tokenomics of PERL, allowing it to now play an essential part in bridging real-world assets and legacy finance products with DeFi.

Enter PerlinXdemocratizing the trading of real-world assets through decentralized liquidity pools and synthetic asset generation

PerlinX gives PERL immediate and compelling value while the team continues to work on long-term goals in global commodities trade, trade finance, and carbon markets.

PERL Tokenomics

PERL will play two important roles on the PerlinX platform by functioning as a liquidity and collateral asset.

Our first goal will be to establish deep liquidity through Balancer liquidity pools — PERL holders will be able to stake their tokens to provide liquidity while receiving incentives. To ensure deep liquidity for PERL, it will be a compulsory asset in all PerlinX pools. A highly liquid PERL is necessary for its second function — the safe creation of synthetic assets (pxTokens).

PerlinX will allow users to over-collateralize PERL in order to create synthetic pxTokens that represent real-world assets (eg. pxCarbon, pxOil, pxGold). We are currently finalizing the implementation of this asset generation infrastructure that also minimizes oracle usage to avoid many of the security and scalability issues that have plagued DeFi.

Immediate Roadmap

Our next update will allow users to participate in the PerlinX ecosystem and stake PERL to earn incentives while providing liquidity. The team will then focus on the following:

  • Launching a trial liquidity incentive program, with rewards distributed in PERL (est. 1~2 weeks)
  • Enabling the minting of pxTokens (est. 2–4 weeks)
  • Identifying potential attack vectors of the platform and addressing them immediately
  • Improving UX to facilitate staking and other features such as liquidations & disputes
  • Designing an effective long-term mechanism to incentivize PERL Liquidity Providers and Synthetic Asset minters

Future Roadmap

The future of PerlinX will be to narrow the gap between global legacy markets and DeFi, with more support for commodities and digital assets, as well as potentially more complex assets such as regulated securities and other financial products (pending regulatory approval). In addition, the team will look into improving the underlying AMM and Synthetic asset minting process to enhance capital efficiency, such as adding liquidity-sensitive fees to increase rewards from being an LP, and collateralizing synthetics with liquidity tokens to reduce volatility and more.

Conclusion

We’re excited about PerlinX and can’t wait to launch the platform along with the features to fully utilize PERL in the coming weeks.
