The mainnet upgrade to IRISnet 1.4 is looking to happen in a month, and now the testnet is live for extensive testing!

A quick look at what will come with this upgrade:

  • Upgrade to cosmos sdk v0.46.5 and ibc-go v5.0.0
  • ⭐⭐ Enable ICA (Interchain Account) feature, and migrate irismod/nft to x/nft. These functionalities once live will make IRISnet the first network to support cross-chain managing NFT/MT assets through ICA 🎉🎉🎉

* MT (a multi-token that combines both NFT and FT tokens) is an implementation of the famous ERC-1155 specification, just as NFT is an implementation of ERC-721.

By introducing ICA to IRISnet, we’ll be able to further invigorate the NFT Hub, and reversely, by rolling out ICA to NFT/MT cross-chain management scenarios, we’re extending ICA use cases and opening doors for diverse Interchain native products.

Now the nyancat testnet is available for validators, service providers and dApp builders on IRISnet to test all things out!

New Features Preview

1. Enabling Interchain Account

IRISnet 1.4 will enable the ICA module as a Host Chain, granting users the access to various native features on IRISnet from one account on the controller chain and enabling users to execute actions native to the host chains beyond simply transferring tokens and following them across different networks.

2. Migrating to x/nft module

IRISnet 1.4 will also migrate to x/nft module, to allow for NFT interconnectability between IRISnet and other chains that enable Interchain NFT transfers — ICS-721.

1+1=♾️

With the new features, IRISnet 1.4 will be able to provide ICA functionalities similar to that of Gaia, and plus allow IBC-managing NFT assets on IRISnet (the host chain) through a controller chain account using ICA.

And yes, we’ll be the first to support this functionality!

In a little more detail, the process would be as follows:

1) Users send an NFT creation message from a controller chain to IRISnet
2) The message reaches IRISnet via IBC
3) An NFT is successfully minted on IRISnet and become available for further ICA actions such as transfers.

*All the above steps should be following the creation of ICA accounts and Class.

In addition to NFT assets, users can also use ICA to cross-chain manage their MT assets using the ERC-1155-compatible “multi-token” module developed in the Cosmos’ tradition.

Again we strongly encourage all validators, node operators, wallets, explorers, and exchanges to test out all functionalities on our testnet, and get ready for the upcoming mainnet upgrade.

Upgrade Notes

For Node Operators:

This upgrade may take longer than in usual cases since it involves data migration, please be careful not to kill the process halfway, lest the node fails to start. It’s also recommended to increase server resources before the upgrade to ensure smooth loading.
