Cronos Mainnet Network Upgrade to Cronos V1.0 “Galileo” — Scheduled for January 18, 2023
The mainnet network upgrade to Cronos V1.0 “Galileo” is now scheduled for January 18, 2023.
On the day of the upgrade, node operators will need to upgrade their Cronos binary to the newest version v1.0 at a target block height to be specified in a subsequent blog post.
We are thrilled by this important milestone.
TLDR:
Major improvements introduced in Cronos v1.0 are as follows:
- Mempool prioritization to scale TPS even further;
- Optimized node storage: 30% less storage for full nodes;
- Node performance improvements such as GRPC queries concurrent responses; Generalized reduction of node start-up time by ~50%;
- New Cosmos functionalities to pave the way for greater EVM/Cosmos interoperability (IBC incentivization, IBC token transfer memo field).

Actions Required from Node Operators
The chain will be upgraded at a specific block height, which will be announced in a separate announcement when approaching to the upgrade date.
After reaching the upgrade block height, all node operators will need to upgrade to the latest cronosd v1.0.2 binary release, so that their node can continue to sync with the chain. The chain will be paused during this upgrade and resume once the majority of validators have been upgraded.
Please DO NOT UPGRADE to the binary v1.0 prior to the target upgrade block.
If you are a dApp developer, you can already test Cronos v1.0.2 on the Cronos Testnet. Spin up your own validator using Cronos testnet v1.0.2 testnet binary, and/or make your dApp interact with Cronos testnet.
