Polygon to Launch Dragon Fruit Upgrade on September 20th
The Polygon zkEVM network is preparing to release an update called Dragon Fruit. The update includes several key improvements:
Enabled support for the new Ethereum operation — PUSH0, which was introduced in the Ethereum (Shanghai) hard fork. After the successful implementation of Dragon Fruit, the Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta network will be fully compliant with the latest version of the Solidity programming language, ensuring full compatibility with the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine).
Currently, developers are given the opportunity to test innovations on the Polygon zkEVM public test site.
It is worth noting that the network upgrade process comes with a 10-day block. The tool is designed to keep users safe by giving them a certain period for a possible withdrawal of funds before the update is finally implemented. The process is expected to end on September 10th.
What is a hardfork?
The cryptocurrency mainnet operates according to certain rules. To improve network performance or correct errors, changes are periodically introduced into it. A hard fork represents changes that are not compatible with previous versions of software supporting the cryptocurrency network. In order to continue to mine the cryptocurrency, miners need to update the software.
In some cases, as a result of a hard fork, a completely new cryptocurrency may appear, as happened with Bitcoin Cash and EthereumPoW.
