What is Ark?
ARK is a blockchain-based development platform that enables the creation of customizable and interoperable blockchains. Founded in mid-2016, ARK focuses on reducing the need for Smart Contracts through custom transactions and support for multiple programming languages. The ARK Public Network, hosting the native ARK crypto asset, went live on March 21, 2017, and the business entity, ARK ECOSYSTEM SCIC (commonly known as ARK.io), was established shortly thereafter.
The ARK Ecosystem utilizes an open-source technology stack written in TypeScript. It comprises ARK’s public network, which is a live implementation of ARK technology with node operators acting as delegates, standalone blockchains powered by ARK with independent node operators, and business entities developing ARK-powered products. ARK also provides a Launcher product for easy, customizable blockchain creation, utilizing a graphical user interface and allowing developers to leverage ARK’s consensus model and technology stack.
The ARK token is central to the ARK Public Network, supporting various special transaction types like multi-payment, multisignature, and IPFS hash transactions. The ARK Core Framework offers developers access to blockchain technology, with the ARK Core handling operations like peer-to-peer interactions, ledger database management, and API access. The Generic Transaction Interface (GTI) within this framework allows for the creation of custom transaction types on ARK-based blockchains, addressing specific use cases without the need for learning a new programming language, as GTI functions in TypeScript. ARK-based decentralized applications and crypto assets operate on sovereign interoperable blockchains, addressing scaling issues.
