What is Audius?
Audius is a blockchain-based decentralized music streaming platform that aims to empower artists and curators by giving them more control over their work. By eliminating the traditional middlemen in the music industry, Audius fosters a direct connection between artists and their fans.
The platform operates on a decentralized network of nodes which ensure the security and immutability of the records when artists upload their content. Artists are given complete ownership of their work and have the liberty to decide the mode of monetization on the platform. This can range from distributing music free of charge to charging a custom fee for exclusive content.
The native cryptocurrency of Audius is the AUDIO token, an ERC-20 token which also serves as the governance token for the platform. AUDIO token holders can stake their tokens to secure the network and participate in governance decisions. They also have the benefit of accessing exclusive content and earning staking rewards. Unlike traditional platforms, Audius doesn’t claim a share of the artists' revenue, enabling them to earn 90% of the revenue in AUDIO, while the remaining 10% is rewarded to network-supporting stakers.
