What is Badger DAO?
Badger DAO is a decentralized, open-source automated organization that creates solutions and infrastructure to facilitate the utilization of Bitcoin (BTC) as collateral on multiple smart contract platforms. This initiative ensures seamless integration of BTC across decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms.
The platform functions as a collaborative space where developers, termed “Badge Builders”, converge to incorporate Bitcoin as collateral on diverse blockchains. With the mainnet introduced on December 3, 2020, the emphasis is on community contribution, backed by the pillars of Badger Builders, community-created products, a dedicated operational team, and transparent governance structures. Their major products include Sett, a DeFi aggregator emphasizing tokenized BTC, which enables users to deposit assets and subsequently earn yields as the underlying smart contracts autonomously navigate the best strategies. Additionally, DIGG serves as a synthetic representation of Bitcoin on Ethereum’s blockchain, maintaining its value peg to BTC through a flexible supply and re-basing functions.
BADGER is the native governance token of the Badger DAO ecosystem. It plays an essential role in shaping the project’s trajectory, as BADGER token holders propose, debate, and approve product developments. Apart from governance, BADGER, along with DIGG, is awarded as incentives to liquidity providers or “farmers” who deposit tokenized BTC into the Sett vault. The token economics incorporates a fee structure, wherein a 0.5% fee is charged directly, and an additional 4.5% is levied on profits to account for gas and other transaction-related expenses.
