What is REN?
Ren (REN) is a protocol focused on ensuring interoperability and liquidity between different blockchain platforms. Its primary objective is to enhance the accessibility of decentralized finance (DeFi) by addressing challenges associated with transferring liquidity across multiple blockchains. The platform’s design centers on facilitating easier access and investment in DeFi ecosystems.
Ren“s core functionality is provided by RenVM, a network comprised of virtual computers forming a virtual machine. This virtual machine enables the direct conversion of tokens between different blockchains, eliminating the need for intermediary steps such as utilizing “wrapped” token versions. The computational power for RenVM is supplied by entities referred to as Darknodes. Through Ren, DeFi projects can seamlessly integrate and utilize assets like Bitcoin (BTC) and Zcash (ZEC), broadening their ecosystem”s reach and capabilities.
REN is an ERC-20 token utilized within the Ren platform. While Ren imposes certain fees for its internal operations, the majority of these fees are directed to reward miners, ensuring network security and functionality. Being an ERC-20 token, REN transactions on the Ethereum network also require gas fees.
