What is Songbird?
Songbird (SGB) is the canary network for Flare, a blockchain designed for universal connectivity and interoperability. Launched in 2021, Songbird serves as a testing ground for innovative features and decentralized applications, providing a secure environment to deploy scalable, non-custodial smart contracts. The network supports integration with both smart contract and non-smart contract assets, enabling broader use cases within decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems.
Songbird leverages Flare’s State Connector, a novel blockchain interoperability primitive, which allows for seamless, decentralized integration with external data sources, both on-chain and off-chain. This mechanism addresses the oracle problem by enabling trustless data acquisition and use. Additionally, Songbird employs a Federated Byzantine Agreement-like consensus protocol to enhance decentralization and efficiency. It facilitates fast, decentralized, and insured bridges for cross-chain liquidity, unifying assets and enabling full cross-chain composability.
The Songbird (SGB) token is the native utility and governance token of the network. SGB is used for transaction fees, network governance, and staking, ensuring the smooth operation of Songbird. By participating in governance and supporting decentralized applications, token holders play a crucial role in shaping the network’s ecosystem and advancing its interoperability features.
