What is Tellor?
Tellor is a decentralized oracle protocol designed to bring off-chain data onto the blockchain. Oracles are crucial in blockchain infrastructure, as they update and provide valuable off-chain data for on-chain smart contracts, enabling a wide range of decentralized applications (DeFi).
Tellor’s operation mechanism involves data reporters who compete to submit accurate data to the blockchain. This is done permissionless, meaning anyone can participate as a reporter without needing approval. Reporters are incentivized to provide valid data by earning rewards in TRB tokens, while also being disincentivized from submitting false data through a dispute and slashing mechanism. If a reporter submits incorrect data, they can be disputed and their staked TRB tokens can be slashed, with the stake awarded to the disputer.
The TRB token (Tributes) is the native token of the Tellor network and plays a central role in aligning the interests of data reporters, oracle users, and community governance. Reporters must stake TRB to participate and earn rewards, and TRB is also used to tip feeds to increase the frequency of data updates. Additionally, TRB is integral to the dispute resolution process, ensuring the integrity and security of the data reported on the network.
