Berachain to Undergo Hard Fork
Berachain reported that validators have largely installed the new hard-fork binary and that the network will resume block production once essential infrastructure providers, including oracle RPC endpoints used for liquidations, complete their upgrades. The team is coordinating subsequent service restoration with bridges, exchanges and custodians.
In parallel, the protocol stated it has reached an agreement with the operator holding the recent BEX funds; the operator has pre-signed transactions to return the assets to the Berachain deployer address when the chain is live. A detailed post-mortem and information on new safety measures across the exchange and core applications will be published after operations restart.
What is a hardfork?
The cryptocurrency mainnet operates according to certain rules. To improve network performance or correct errors, changes are periodically introduced into it. A hard fork represents changes that are not compatible with previous versions of software supporting the cryptocurrency network. In order to continue to mine the cryptocurrency, miners need to update the software.
In some cases, as a result of a hard fork, a completely new cryptocurrency may appear, as happened with Bitcoin Cash and EthereumPoW.
