Zcash Network Upgrade 6.1 to Launch on November 23
Zcash developers confirmed that the Network Upgrade 6.1 (NU 6.1) will go live on November 23. Wallet application maintainers must update their consensus branch IDs to remain compatible with the upcoming network version.
Developers publishing through app stores are advised to plan ahead, considering possible review delays during the U.S. holiday season. Deployment details and SDK updates for Android and iOS are available on Zcash’s GitHub.
What is a hardfork?
The cryptocurrency mainnet operates according to certain rules. To improve network performance or correct errors, changes are periodically introduced into it. A hard fork represents changes that are not compatible with previous versions of software supporting the cryptocurrency network. In order to continue to mine the cryptocurrency, miners need to update the software.
In some cases, as a result of a hard fork, a completely new cryptocurrency may appear, as happened with Bitcoin Cash and EthereumPoW.
