Zcash to Activate Network Upgrade on November 23th
The Zcash team has announced the release of zcashd 6.0.0, which will activate Network Upgrade 6 (NU6) at block height 2726400 — expected around November 23, 2024, coinciding with the next Zcash halving. NU6 will implement a new Zcash development fund (Hybrid Deferred Dev Fund transitioning to a non-direct funding model) and set up a “lockbox” for future decentralized grants funding.
All users are advised to upgrade to zcashd 6.0.0 or a later release. The end of support for version 5.10.0 is November 5.
What is a hardfork?
The cryptocurrency mainnet operates according to certain rules. To improve network performance or correct errors, changes are periodically introduced into it. A hard fork represents changes that are not compatible with previous versions of software supporting the cryptocurrency network. In order to continue to mine the cryptocurrency, miners need to update the software.
In some cases, as a result of a hard fork, a completely new cryptocurrency may appear, as happened with Bitcoin Cash and EthereumPoW.
